This past June’s Anchorage Pride Parade marked a remarkable milestone for LGBTQ+ Alaskans and allies. With more than 900 people walking in the 48th annual parade, it stands as the largest Pride parade Anchorage has seen yet, filling downtown streets with joy, unity, and colorful celebration.
Anchorage Pride has long been a centerpiece of Pride Month in Alaska, bringing together diverse participants—from nonprofits and community groups to families and local leaders—to celebrate identity and support for LGBTQ+ equality.
As Parade Chair JJ Harrier reflected, “This is the biggest parade we’ve seen so far…it’s overwhelming when you see the people come out and support the LGBTQ+ community in the way that they do.”
What makes this event especially meaningful is not only its size, but what it represents: a vibrant display of community resilience, visibility, and shared humanity. From spectators enjoying the wonderful array of tents and food trucks at Delaney Park Strip to individuals experiencing Pride for the first time, the atmosphere was brimming with celebration and connection.
Anchorage Pride continues to be more than a parade—it’s a place where Alaskans from all walks of life come together to honor love, affirm dignity, and stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. Moments like these remind us that progress is community-built, and that together we create space for acceptance and joy.
