Action Alert: Support DREAMers, Support the Dream Act

We need you to help protect the 75,000 LGBTQ DREAMers!

Today, President Trump announced he would phase out the Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals, or DACA program. This action is an unconscionable and cruel move by the Trump Administration. The young people that are the targets of this misguided policy change grew up in America. America is the country they know and love.

In 2012, after 11 years of failed immigration reform in Congress, President Obama created DACA through executive order to allow the more than 1.3 million children brought to the United States illegally, to work and go to school without fear of deportation. To learn more about DACA, check out this great story from VOX.

An estimated 800,000 young people, including more than 75,000 LGBTQ people, trusted the word of our government and applied for DACA status. These young people are currently protected from deportation and have authorization to work in the U.S. More than 11% of DACA recipients who responded to a survey on DACA’s impact on their lives identified as LGBTQ. DACA recipients saw an average increase in hourly wages of over 40%46% are in school, and more than 90% were able to obtain a driver’s license or state ID.

Turning our backs on the children of DACA after promising them safety and securityis morally repugnant.

Ending DACA is not just morally wrong; it will hurt our economy. The almost 700,000 DACA recipients are in our Armed Services, workforce, our colleges, and contribute to our country every day. Ending DACA will be massively disruptive not only to their lives but also to the American economy.

It’s time for our Republican Congressional delegation to decide which side of history they are on.

TAKE ACTION: Please call the Alaska Congressional Delegation and let them know that they need to pass the DREAM ACT 2017 and provide these young people, who are Americans in their minds and hearts, a path to citizenship.

STEP 1: Call the Alaska Congressional delegation. Here’s an idea of what to say: “I’m calling to urge the Alaska delegation to keep America’s promise to the DREAMers and for Congress to pass a 2017 version of the bipartisan DREAM ACT."

Senator Murkowski’s DC Office(202)-224-6665
Senator Sullivan’s DC Office(202)-224-3004
Congressman Don Young’s DC Office(202) 225-5765

STEP 2: Share this information with family and friends on social media, via email, and talk to those you know and love.

This isn’t about political party; this is about promises.

America must keep her promises. We must protect the children who have grown up in our country and allow them a path to citizenship. They deserve equality.
