Update (as of 7/26/17): Take a minute today and call our Senators today. Unfortunately, the motion to proceed was successful, but the Senate still has a chance to do the right thing, and vote NO on final repeal of the Affordable Care Act. It is clear, any bill that comes to a vote will increase costs, cut coverage, and weaken protections. Sen. Murkowski must continue to stay strong, and Sen. Sullivan has one more chance to do what’s right for Alaskans.
You may have heard all the commotion about the Senate Republicans trying to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with the so called “the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA).“ Well as you could have probably guessed, this legislation is not only bad for Alaskans but even worst for the LGBTQ community. Well, chances are this version is dead (at least at the time of this post), but now the Senate Republican leadership just want to repeal all of the Affordable Care Act without any plan for replacing it.
22 Million People at risk including many LGBTQ Americans
Today, because of the ACA, more LGBTQ Americans have health coverage.According to Think Progress, "in 2013, before the Affordable Care Act came into effect, 34 percent of LGBTQ people making less than $45,000 per year were uninsured. By 2017, that number dropped by a third to 22 percent."
Our community deserves both access and affordable health care. The GOP plan rolls back the progress made. The Trump administration is also curbing data collection about LGBTQ health, and there will be even less information available about and for our community and our health in the future if the GOP plan passes.
We need your help to stop the GOP's health care plan and the possible repeal of the ACA! Our delegation has the power to stop this ill-advised health care plan and the repeal in its tracks.
Please consider taking the following actions:
1. CALL Senator Murkowski and Senator Sullivan to let them know that you are an Alaskan (provide your full contact information) and let them know you OPPOSE any version of the BCRA and urge them to vote NO on the Motion to Proceed and NO to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
2. EMAIL Senator Murkowski at (https://www.murkowski.senate.gov/contact/email) and Senator Sullivan at (https://www.sullivan.senate.gov/contact/email) and let them know you OPPOSE any version of the BCRA and urge them to vote NO on the Motion to Proceed and NO to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
