The result of the presidential election has caused concern to many in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies. While there is uncertainty within our community and our movement, we know together we can get through what might happen in the next four years. With your help, we have accomplished a lot and we intend to continue our mission to advance civil equality for all Alaskans.

Washington D.C. - A Senate panel on Wednesday quickly and easily approved a first-of-its-kind anti-discrimination measure that would provide workplace protection to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Alaska is one of 29 states where there is no state law protecting a lesbian, gay or bisexual person from being fired just because of who they are - the same is true in 34 states for transgender people.

Not too long ago, I had the honor of nominating an Alaskan family as “Angels in Adoption,” a celebration of the selflessness shown by foster care families and those who adopt children.  They arrived in Washington, DC, a military family who had opened their doors to not one child but four siblings to make sure that these sisters and brother had the simplest gift you can give a child: a home together. 

Williams Institute releases national study analyzing LGBT parenting demographics

LOS ANGELES— An estimated 37% of LGBT Americans have had a child, meaning as many as six million American children and adults have an LGBT parent, according to findings from a national study released  today by Williams Institute Distinguished Scholar, Gary J. Gates.

Today, President Obama declared his support for marriage equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans.  The President joins a majority of Americans who believe that all committed and loving couples should have the opportunity to enjoy the protections that marriage offers to them and their families.
